so I usually make videos about maps and international stuff but as you all can see lately i've been diving into all sorts of different topics (NFTs, icecream makers, shampoo). The reality is that I make my videos based on what is genuinely fascinating me at any moment. I'm glad you are all here along with me on this wild ride of trying to understand how things work. lots more stuff to come! -Johnny

I had to check if this video was published on the 1st of April. The cycle you mentioned is probably true for YOU but isn't the same true for the skin and face. We wash our skin when it is oily (which is basically every day, that's why we bath, duh!!), removing oil from the skin, then apply oil again in form of moisturizer. You are missing the point that when we wash (hair, body, face), we are also removing dirt and oil (from other sources) and exfoliate our skin. If your logic is correct for YOU. Someone like you should stop bathing and cleaning your face too. And as for "Human beings used to not wash their hair very much at all" the history of Shapooing dates back to the 4th Century BC (www.dailypress.com/news/dp-xpm-20030511-2003-05-11-0305080301-story.html#:~:text=A%3A%20The%20first%20known%20mention,meaning%20to%20massage%20or%20knead., en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shampoo#cite_note-12). It's okay to be skeptical but not okay to broadcast what you may "think" is good for you when you know you have over a million subscribers, including some very stupid ones, who would believe whatever you say, without verifying the truth.

So many bathroom/beauty products are unnecessary. A bottle of Body Wash doesn't last as long as a bar of soap, and it comes in a plastic bottle. Face Wash is often stripping of oils and even after a moisturizer leaves your face greasy. I switched back to bar soap, no shampoo, a face balm and face oil (which luckily come in glass jars), and just a bit of leave-in conditioner. I'm not perfect but I've been slowly minimizing the types of products I buy as I awaken to the fact that ads I saw growing up push unnecessary products (not speaking to medical conditions, just every day toiletry products). This is a great video pointing out how ads inspire problems that don't exist and urge us to buy a solution.

Good curiosity, here in brazil it is literally illegal for an advertisement on tv to say that you have to do something like "use head n 'shoulders every day" or "buy hersheys". it is also forbidden for anyone to drink in an alcoholic beverage commercial. cigarette advertisements are absolutely banned in any way, there is not even a single tobacco advertisement in brazil

I haven't washed my hair with shampoo for six years now. I've been a lifelong sufferer of dandruff but none of the various shampoos did anything for me and some made things actively worse. I was on a trip in Italy when I ran out of the last one and, like you, I thought I'd get more once I came back home - and never did. The first few weeks were odd as my hair tried to adapt to the new reality but since then, my hair has been pretty amazing. I live in France where hairdressers are trained to wash hair with shampoo first. They refused to cut my hair without shampooing so I refused their services and resorted to my own clippers. Now, I might go to the hairdressers once a year or something and put up with their nonsense...

Many years ago I wondered how often I should actually shower and found that you really don't actually need to shower very often, at least not for hygienic reasons. Once a week or even less should be more than enough and showering too much could probably even have adverse effects. Of course people often like feeling fresh so they shower every day, but I think similar to this shampoo thing, it's also largely a psychologic thing. Thanks for this reminder, I might actually try shampooing less or not at all.

For gel, I get half cup of flax seed and boil it in water until it gets thick, then strain it. Perfect curls. I also use oils on my scalp as a shampoo. I apply it prior to showering rinse it out and my hair is gorgeous and not smelly. Yogurt and honey help get your natural biome back . Arm pits too. No body odor because of a healthy biome. I’m not a sheep. If a commercial tells me I need something, I tend to not do it. Again, I love the way you think.

FINALLY someone made a video about this. My dermatology teacher in college gave us a lecture once on the uselessness of shampoo, which contained exactly your arguments in the video (you take off your scalp's natural oil [shampoo] to replace it with oil again [conditioner]). He called it one of the most pervasive scams of the beauty industry. Since that lecture I also almost never wash my hair (not even with water) and it has been completely fine for years. To think of all the billions of collective people's money and billions of gallons of water being polluted every year because of this scam! It's grotesque. He also said that for people who are used to shampooing and suddenly stop using it, the scalp may over-produce natural oil in the first few weeks (since it takes a while to "catch on" that the oil is not being removed every day anymore), making the scalp oily for that period, but then it should normalize.

So I’m a girl and I’ve recently watched prolly hundreds of hours of the CGM and I’ve bought many products. My hair may just be “transitioning” but I also am looking back to when I’d shampoo once every two weeks, I don’t think I even used conditioner and if my hair got too oily I’d put some baby powder it in. And ya know, not only was my hair wavy like it naturally should be - but I could run my fingers through it. It wasn’t all crusty from product. This is so tempting Edit: I never heat styled my hair but I got into the habit of coming it while wet to be straight.

I think shampooing depends on how much oil your glands produce and stuff, as acne is a big problem for many people. I used to shampoo once a month after getting the haircut, until I turned 16 and in came the acne, on my face, back and even head. So now I need to shampoo every next day, or else my forehead turns into a land of cyst and pain.
